Scorching Heat Ahead: IMD Warns Of Above-Normal Temperatures In March 2025
India is expected to witness above-normal temperatures from March to May 2025, with large parts of the country preparing for intense heat, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast indicates that both maximum and minimum temperatures will remain elevated in most regions. However, Northwest India and the southern parts of the Peninsula may see near-normal minimum temperatures.
The IMD states that March 2025 will experience significantly higher-than-average maximum temperatures across most of the country. "Above-normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of India from March to May 2025," the department reported. Alongside rising temperatures, the frequency of heatwave days is also expected to increase in several regions, except in Northeast India and the southernmost areas.

While most of the country is likely to experience intense heat, parts of the southern Peninsula and the Northeast may see normal to below-normal temperatures. Despite the soaring heat, the IMD has predicted that overall rainfall in March will be within the normal range. Some areas in the Peninsular region may even receive above-average precipitation.
With the likelihood of prolonged heat spells, authorities may need to take preventive measures to mitigate the impact on public health, agriculture, and water resources. The IMD's early warnings allow both individuals and policymakers to prepare for the upcoming heat conditions.
As climate patterns continue to evolve, the importance of heat preparedness and effective water management remains critical. The upcoming months will test India's resilience against rising temperatures, emphasizing the need for heatwave response strategies to safeguard communities.
