Two scooters exploded in the busy Mishri Bazar near a mosque on Wednesday evening, injuring eight people and damaging nearby shops, according to police. The blasts occurred around 7:30 pm in the crowded Moolganj area. The explosions were heard up to 500 metres away from the Markaz mosque.

Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal confirmed that eight individuals were injured in the blasts involving two parked scooters. The injured were taken to a hospital, with two discharged after first aid. Four others with severe burns were referred to King Georges Medical University in Lucknow. Two remain under observation at Kanpur hospital but are reportedly out of danger.
Investigation and Security Measures
Authorities have engaged multiple agencies, including the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Special Task Force (STF), to investigate the incident thoroughly. "Nothing is being ruled out at this stage," said Lal, noting that forensic experts and specialised teams are examining every aspect to determine the source and nature of the blast.
With Diwali approaching, officials are considering the possibility of a firecracker-related explosion, though a terror angle is not dismissed. Security has been increased in neighbouring areas, and measures are being taken to prevent rumour-mongering, according to the officer.
Forensic Examination and Evidence Collection
A bomb disposal squad, forensic experts, and anti-sabotage teams are on-site to comb through the area and collect samples. Intelligence units have been tasked with analysing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify any possible suspects, police said.
The blast caused damage to nearby shop walls. A shopkeeper, Mohammad Uwais, recounted, "We were sitting inside the shop when suddenly there was a loud blast. People were startled and items of shops were scattered all over the road."
Details of Involved Scooters
Preliminary investigations revealed one scooter belonged to Ashwani Kumar, who was among those moved to Lucknow for treatment. Kumar informed police he had visited the market for Diwali decorations. The second scooter is owned by Vijendra Prasad Rastogi from Govind Nagar, though police have yet to contact him.
