School Holiday On September 17: All Govt, Private Schools To Remain Closed In These States Due To Heavy Rain

Persistent rainfall in September has caused significant disruptions across India. If the situation deteriorates, schools in several states might close on 17 September 2025. Maharashtra and Uttarakhand have been particularly affected by heavy rains recently. A cloudburst in Dehradun on 15 September 2025 led to severe damage, flash floods, waterlogging, and landslides.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and red alerts for most districts in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh are under a yellow alert for 17 September 2025. In Bihar, districts like Patna have experienced continuous light rain for three days. Although schools were open in most northern states, students should be prepared for potential closures based on IMD warnings.

Maharashtra's Weather Alert

In Maharashtra, a yellow alert is in place for many districts. Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Washim, Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Bhandara, Latur, Osmanabad, and Gondia may face thunderstorms and lightning. Heavy rain is expected in Ahmednagar, Beed, Buldhana, Akola, and Amravati on 17 September 2025.

Raigadh, Ratnagiri, Pune's Ghats region, Ahilyanagar, Sindhudurg, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Jalbna, Parbhani and Dharashiva could experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places. Beed district's administration has declared a holiday for all schools today; however no announcement has been made for 17 September 2025 yet.

Bihar's Rainfall Situation

In Bihar light rain is anticipated in Madhubani Darbhanga Muzaffarpur Saran Bhojpur Arwal Patna Vaishali Samastipur Khagaria Jamui Nawada Gaya Aurangabad Sheikhpura Nalanda Jehanabad Begusarai Munger districts. Winds of up to 40 kmph are expected according to IMD forecasts.

Most parts of Bihar remain under a yellow alert from IMD. Schools operated normally on 16 September 2025 but no holiday has been declared for the following day yet.

Odisha's Weather Forecast

Odisha is also under a yellow alert with strong surface winds thunderstorms and lightning predicted across several districts on 17 September 2025. Baragarh Jharsuguda Sundargarh Sambalpur Mayurbhanj Kendujhar Baleshwar Puri Khorda Nayagarh Anugul Dhenkanal Jajapur Bhadrak are likely to experience these conditions.

No school holidays have been announced so far but students should stay updated through official channels.

Madhya Pradesh faces orange and yellow alerts with high chances of thunderstorms and lightning across most districts. Heavy rains are forecasted for Khargone Khandwa Ujjain Ratlam Satna Gwalior Jabalpur among others on 17 September 2025.
