School Holiday: Authorities In This Region Announce School Holidays Till Sept 1 Due To Heavy Rains

The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) on Sunday announced an extended school holiday for all government and private institutions in the Jammu Division till September 1, 2025. The decision was taken in view of continuous heavy rainfall and multiple landslides that have severely disrupted normal life in the hilly districts. The official order, signed by Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, Director School Education Jammu, emphasized that the safety of students and staff remains the top priority.

This fresh school holiday extension comes just days after the Jammu and Kashmir administration had declared a closure on August 29 and 30, following torrential downpours and flooding. During that time, school authorities were advised to explore the possibility of conducting online classes for students in Classes 9 to 12, wherever adequate internet and digital infrastructure was available.

The prolonged school holiday period has been necessitated by record rainfall across the region, which has already claimed at least 45 lives due to rain-related incidents. Many school buildings are currently waterlogged, making them unsafe for use, while road connectivity has been badly hit by flooding, erosion, and debris. Officials have also highlighted the risks of mudslides, falling stones, and landslides along major commuting routes, raising concerns over the daily travel of students.

Authorities have made it clear that the school holiday order will remain in force until weather and ground conditions improve. The Directorate, along with local disaster management teams, continues to monitor the situation closely. A final call on reopening schools will be taken once safety is assured, with parents and students urged to stay updated through official notifications.
