School Closed in Noida on August 21 for Guru Dronacharya Mela

Parents and students, take note: schools will remain closed in Noida on Thursday, August 21, as the district administration has ordered a holiday due to the Guru Dronacharya Mela at Dankaur.

The annual fair, held at the Guru Dronacharya temple in Greater Noida, draws huge crowds, often leading to traffic jams and safety concerns. To avoid inconvenience for students and ensure smooth festival arrangements, officials have directed all schools to remain shut for the day.

More School Holidays This Month

August brings a festive break for students:

• August 26 (Onam): School closed in many states.
• August 27 (Ganesh Chaturthi): Another school holiday, especially in Maharashtra and southern states.

What is Guru Dronacharya Mela?

The Guru Dronacharya Mela celebrates the legendary teacher of the Pandavas and Kauravas from the Mahabharata. The 10-day fair, hosted at Shri Drona Natya Shala, includes cultural events, competitions, and devotional programmes. With thousands of devotees visiting, authorities usually shut nearby roads, adding to the need for a school holiday.

School Closed in Thane, Panvel, Navi Mumbai Too

Separately, on August 20, all schools, colleges, and anganwadis were also declared closed in Thane, Panvel, Navi Mumbai, and Lonavala following heavy rains.

While Mumbai schools continue regular classes, the IMD has issued an orange alert for the city and a red alert for Raigad, warning of very heavy rainfall in Thane and Palghar districts.
