Scammed In Old Delhi: Singapore Vlogger’s E-Rickshaw Horror Story Goes Viral | Watch
A Singaporean woman recently recounted her unsettling experience in Old Delhi on social media, where she fell victim to a scam perpetrated by an e-rickshaw driver. The travel vlogger, known as Chan Sylvia on social media platforms, posted a video on Instagram, providing a detailed account of the incident.
Chan's journey began in the bustling Jama Masjid area of Old Delhi, where she and her friend encountered a seemingly amiable e-rickshaw driver. He assured them that they only needed to pay if they were satisfied with the ride.

Trusting his words, they embarked on their journey, initially destined for the Red Fort. However, upon reaching their destination, the driver rejected the previously agreed fare of Rs 100 and suggested they pay him later when he picked them up from Chandni Chowk.
Having exchanged phone numbers, Chan contacted the driver when they were ready to leave. To her dismay, the driver took numerous unwarranted stops, insisting they follow him on foot at Khari Baoli. Chan described her frustration, "We wanted to explore on our own, but he kept insisting we follow him."
The situation deteriorated further when Chan informed the driver that Krishna Market would be their final stop. Instead of taking them there, the driver diverted five kilometres away from Chandni Chowk and aggressively demanded a payment of Rs 6,000. Stranded in an unfamiliar part of the city, Chan and her friend reluctantly handed over Rs 2,000, after which the driver promptly left them.
Reflecting on the experience, Chan expressed her continued support for local drivers but noted that such incidents made her consider opting for more reliable services like Uber for safety reasons.
Since the incident, Chan's video has amassed over 145,000 views, sparking a wave of reactions from her followers.
One follower commented, "He was giving off bad vibes throughout the tour, taking you to places you never asked for and demanding money only in a quiet area where you couldn't make a fuss. Terrible behaviour."
Another warned, "That is really dangerous! It could have escalated into something more threatening, like being cornered by a group."
A third follower expressed concern, saying, "Omg, are you okay? Are you safe now? Please be careful when travelling, whether alone or with others."
This incident underscores the importance of vigilance and caution when navigating unfamiliar territories, particularly when dealing with local transport options.
