SC rejects Sajjan Kumar's plea, asks him to face murder trial

New Delhi, Dec 3: Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed Sajjan Kumar's plea to quash charges against him. The apex court has asked the 67-years-old former Congress MP to face trial for murder in Sultanpuri In New Delhi during the 1984 Anti-Sikh riot that followed the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.

The politician is accused of murder, rioting and promoting hatred between communities which allegedly led to the deaths of six people in Sultanpuri.

At least 3,000 Sikhs were killed in the riots.
