SC Rejects Plea To Oust Arvind Kejriwal As Delhi CM

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition challenging the Delhi High Court's decision not to order the removal of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The petition was filed after Kejriwal's arrest in the Delhi Liquor Policy case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The apex court declined to interfere, stating it's Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena's prerogative to act.

SC on Kejriwal As Delhi CM

This decision follows the court's recent grant of interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal for campaigning in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections until June 1, pending the validity of his arrest being considered.

Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta ordered Kejriwal to surrender on June 2 and barred him from the chief minister's office and the Delhi secretariat as bail conditions.

This development is a big boost for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s election campaign in Punjab and Delhi, where it is contesting several seats in alliance with the Congress. Kejriwal, AAP's national convenor, was arrested on March 21 in the Delhi liquor policy scam case and has contested the validity of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate.
