SC Raps Coaching Centres For Delhi Tragedy, Calls Them 'Death Chambers'
The Supreme Court on Monday took serious note of the deaths of three IAS aspirants at a coaching centre in Delhi, calling the incident an "eye-opener."
The court slammed coaching centres as "death chambers" that endanger the lives of students.

A bench led by Justice Suryakant issued notices to the Delhi government and the Centre regarding the incident, expressing concern over the lack of effective measures.
The court remarked, "We are not sure as to what effective measure has been taken so far by NCT of Delhi or the Union of India. The recent unfortunate incidents taking away the lives of some of the young ones who joined coaching centres for their career pursuits are eye-openers for one and all."
The bench also decided to broaden the scope of the proceedings, issuing a suo motu notice to the Union of India and the NCT of Delhi.
The court stated, "We therefore deem it appropriate to expand the scope of these proceedings as suo motu to issue notice to Union of India and NCT of Delhi to show cause as to what safety norms have been prescribed so far and, if so, what is the effective mechanism introduced for their compliance."
This statement was made during the hearing of petitions related to fire incidents in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area.
The deaths of the three civil service aspirants occurred on July 27 in the basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajendra Nagar, central Delhi, due to flooding caused by heavy rain.
