Sasikala replies to EC's notice on her appointment as general secretary

In the 72-page reply, Sasikala has contended that general council is competent to make interim arrangements

Convicted interim general secretary of AIADMK Sasikala Natarajan has replied to the notice issued by the Election Commission. The ECI had sought explanation on her appointment as the party's general secretary. The notice was sent to Bengaluru central prison where she is currently lodged after being convicted in a disproportionate assets case.

AIADMK's advocates filed the reply on behalf of Sasikala. The 72-page reply contends allegations made by O Panneerselvam's supporters. In her reply, Sasikala has claimed that while the general secretary has to be chosen by the party cadre, her appointment as an interim general secretary was a temporary measure. She stated that the general council of the AIADMK was competent to make interim arrangements. The EC is considering her reply.

While the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's schedule demanded that he be present in New Delhi on Monday and Tuesday, AIADMK's deputy general secretary and Sasikala's nephew TTV Dinakaran also accompanied Edappadi Palanisamy.

In the notice, the EC had stated that if no reply is given before February 28, it will be understood that Sasikala does not have any comments on the subject and action, as deemed fit by the commission will be initiated. The notice was issued after rebel MPs of the AIADMK challenged her appointment as the party's general secretary days after Jayalalithaa's death.
