Sartaj Aziz to attend Heart of Asia conference in India

According to reports, Pakistan formally confirmed to India that its Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz will visit Amritsar next week for conference on Afghanistan.

Islamabad, Nov 23: Pakistan's foreign policy chief Sartaj Aziz will be attending the Heart of Asia conference scheduled to be held in India. According to reports, Pakistan formally confirmed to India that its Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz will visit Amritsar next week for conference on Afghanistan.

The Heart of Asia conference will be held during the first week of December in Amritsar, India.

Foreign ministers from 14-member countries, including Russia, China and Turkey, are expected to attend the day-long conference meant to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan to restore long-term peace and stability in the war-torn country.

Senior officials from 17 supporting countries, including the US, will also participate in the meeting to be jointly presided over by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India had recently boycotted the SAARC summit which was scheduled to be held in Islamabad. Citing continuous cross-border terrorism from Pakistan following the Uri attack, India had said, "In the present circumstances" it was unable to take part in the SAARC summit.
