Kolkata, Feb 13: Prashantho Naskar who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Saradha scam a while ago is a major catch. He will be the one who could thrown light on the major dealings of Sudipta Sen in connivance with the officials and politicians in West Bengal.
The Enforcement Directorate during its investigation into the scam found that Naskar once a close aide of both Sudipta Sen and Madan Mitra had extensively used his political clout to broker deals.
What Naskar did in the Saradha scam?
Naskar was the man who allegedly purchased land in the names of fictious companies and sold them to the Saradha group. A majority of the land dealings were done in the South 24-Paraganas.
Naskar is said to have been handpicked by Sen as he knew that the former was close to land officials. With this association he had managed to purchase land in excess of the urban land ceiling act.
What the ED says on Naskar?
During the course of the investigation the ED found that Naskar had a good clout in political circles. He used them to his advantage to broker deals for the Saradha group.
In fact in several occasions it was found he had played a middleman between Sen and the politicians in West Bengal. It was also found that he was particularly close to Madan Mitra as well.
Mitra had come under the scanner after it was found that several holdings of the Saradha group were located in Bishnupur. This place incidentally was also the constituency of Madan Mitra.
Saradha land deals
Thanks to the alleged involvement of Naskar several violations in land dealings had taken place. There was no objection raised when Naskar purchased land.
He was also responsible for ensuring that random mutation of land was permitted in favour of the Saradha group in violation of the urban ceiling act.
