Saradha Scam: BJP President writing scripts for CBI, says Derek O'Brien

New Delhi, Dec 15: After West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra was arrested by CBI in the multi-crore Saradha scam, Trinamool Congress chief and state's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed BJP and called the arrest a "political vendetta" and "dirty conspiracy".

Banerjee also condemned the arrest as "illegal and unconstitutional" and said it is a "dangerous" step to destroy democratic institutions.

On Monday ruckus was created in Rajya Sabha over the issue.

Raising the issue, Derek O'Brien (TMC) said CBI was being used for political vendetta. Without naming anyone, he said the president of a political party is "writing the script for CBI."

After TMC raised the issue as soon as the House met for the day, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, "There is no question of government or any political leader interfering."

"The case is being monitored by Supreme Court. CBI acts independently in the case and reports to the Supreme Court. Government has nothing to do in the matter," he said.

Deputy Chairman P J Kurien asked him not to name any person who cannot defend himself in the House. "CBI is being used for political vendetta. I have given notice" for suspension of business to raise the issue, O'Brien said.

Mitra was arrested in a case relating to Saradha Realty on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, misappropriation of funds as well as deriving undue financial benefits from the Saradha Group, a CBI spokesman said.

The CBI had earlier arrested two TMC Rajya Sabha MPs Srinjay Bose and Kunal Ghosh in connection with the Saradha scam.
