Sangam Illuminates for Dev Deepavali Ahead of Maha Kumbh 2025 Celebrations

The banks of the Sangam, Arail Ghat, and the Yamuna near Maujgiri Ashram and Baluaghat were adorned with oil lamps on Friday. This was part of the Dev Deepawali celebrations, which precede the Maha Kumbh 2025. According to Hindu mythology, Dev Deepawali is observed 15 days after Diwali during the full moon night of Kartik. It marks Lord Shiva's victory over the demon Tripurasura.

The district administration and Prayagraj Mela Authority organised a grand event for Kartik Purnima in the Sangam area. Justice Prakash Padia from the Allahabad High Court inaugurated the celebration. District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar expressed his joy, stating, "We are celebrating Dev Deepavali with great joy on the sacred banks of the Sangam. I extend my best wishes to the people of Prayagraj for Dev Deepavali, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima."

Justice Padia, Mandar, and other officials took part in a grand Ganga and Yamuna aarti. The ceremony included Vedic chants and a ceremonial offering of lamps. Cultural programmes and a spectacular fireworks display were also part of the festivities. A district official mentioned that thousands of lamps illuminated various ghats, attracting a large crowd.

The festival's vibrant atmosphere was enhanced by these cultural events and displays. The lighting of lamps symbolised spiritual enlightenment and victory over darkness. The event not only celebrated religious traditions but also brought together communities in joyous harmony.
