Sandeshkhali: PM Modi Likely To Meet Sexual Harassment Victims In West Bengal

Taking cognizance of the political uproar in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali, where several women alleged Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his allies of sexual asault and land grabbing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state in coming days. According to the reports, PM Modi is scheduled to visit West Bengal on March 6, 2024, for a key meeting with party leaders ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 and he may meet the victims of Sandeshkhali.

Since the incident of Sandeshkhali in Bengal's North 24 Parganas came to light, the BJP and TMC leaders are leaving no chance to target each other. However, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered a high-level inquiry committee headed by a woman DCP to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, the state police has arrested two main allies of Sheikh Shahjahan, but the strongman is still out of reach of the police.

TCM leader has been absconding for over a month now, since a team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided his house in relation to a corruption case. At that time, the ED sleuths were attacked by a mob.

A day ago, a BJP delegation led by the party's state unit chief Shubendu Adhikari visited the women. They were stopped by the state police for creating a ruckus. During the scuffle, a BJP leader called a Sikh policeman, a Khalistani. That added a religious angle to the story and gave the state ruling party a chance to launch a counterattack.

Sharing the video of the incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed the BJP and called them radicals, who don't respect other's religions.

West Bengal has 42 Lok Sabha seats, which may play a big role fo NDA to achieve its target of 400+ seats. In the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP bagged 16 seats, and this time the saffron front would eye to double the numbers.
