Salman Khan shows power of Being Human, breaks silence over Saifai row

Mumbai, Jan 9: Salman Khan finally broke his silence over the controversy regarding his performance at Saifai. The Bollywood superstar on Thursday, Jan 9 said that he always tries to help local people whenever he goes to perform for any show.

Salman Khan along with many other celebrities of Bollywood including actress Madhuri Dixit faced tremendous criticism for their performance at Saifai to entertain Samajwadi Party leaders including UP CM Akhilesh Yadav.

The stars were criticised for their performance at a time when victims of Muzaffarnagar riots have been asked to vacate relief camps due to short of funds. Total 35 people including many children died due to coldwave in the region and UP government said that they have been running out of money. On the contrary the same state government announced a Rs 1 crore subsidy for Madhuri Dikshit's latest movie Dedh Ishqiya.

Citing criticism against him and protest against his upcoming movie Jai Ho, Salman Khan finally said, "Whenever I visit a place for a performance or a promotion, I see it as an opportunity to help the locals in the areas of healthcare or education."

Being Human, Salman Khan's NGO, donated Rs 25 lakh to medical college

Meanwhile, Madhuri Dixit tweeted from micro-blogging site Twitter and informed that all stars, who performed at Saifai, helped the non-charitable foundation 'Being Human', being run by Salman Khan, to donate Rs 25 lakh to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.

Here it can be mentioned that the state government spent Rs 20 crore for this Saifai Mahotsab. According to TV reports, stars like Salman and others were paid Rs 50 lakh for each performance in the show.

The star-studded event was attended by Samajwadi Party leaders, select bureaucrats and residents of Mulayam Singh Yadav's hometown.

Apart from many B-class Bollywood stars, there were superstars like Salman Khan and Madhuri Dikshit among the performers. Over 2000 policemen were deployed at the venue which had seating arrangements for 25000 people. Special chartered planes were arranged to bring Bollywood stars from Mumbai to Lucknow.

Whenever I visit a place for a performance or a promotion, I see it as an opportunity to help the locals in the areas of healthcare or education. In Nagpur, on Sunday, Being Human pledged to fund 100 paediatric cardiac cases in Maharashtra State.

And in Etawah, Being Human, on behalf of all artists who performed yesterday, has committed to fund 200 paediatric heart surgeries in UP (there is already a wait list of 81 children we have received who are being moved to Fortis Hospital Gurgaon and their surgeries will get done by month end and Being Human is in touch with local NGOs and hospitals for their lists also).

We have also contributed Rs 25 lakh to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College & Hospital for the purchase of an Echo Machine, Pediatric & neo natal ventilator and a portable X-ray machine for their paediatric cardiac ICU.
