Hit and Run Case: Bodyguard's statement may land Salman Khan in jail; actor in court

Mumbai, March 12: Bollywood actor Salman Khan reached Mumbai session court on Thursday, March 12 in connection with his infamous hit and run case.

The court earlier had asked the actor to be present in the court where investigating officers were scheduled to submit their statements.

Salman and his lawyer might be tense as the session court also will hear the statement of Salman's former bodyguard Ravindra Patil who had filed the case against him in 2002.

Patil, who died in 2007, was the only eye-witness in the case, earlier had recorded his statement saying that Salman was driving the car under the influence of alcohol.

According to Patil's statement, he was sitting beside Salman in the car and he repeatedly had warned the actor against rash driving. However, Salman did not pay heed to his warnings and rammed the car into a bakery in Bandra on Sept 28, 2002.

While one person died, four other were injured. Patil had filed the case against Salman but had lived a gruesome life there after. He was sacked as the personal bodyguard of the actor.

Later he was removed from his job as police. His family members too abandoned him as he did not have any job. According to media reports, Patil was forced to abscond from Mumbai and was declared an absconder by the judge for not being present in the court. A warrant was issued and without hearing Patil's pleas he was arrested and sent to Arthur Road jail.

Once a young and handsome guy, health condition of Patil deteriorated to such an extent that he was reduced to skeleton!

For years, Salman's lawyer has been arguing that the actor was not driving the car but Patil's statement may land the actor in jail for 10 years.
