Salem: DMK, DMDK cadres clash, no one files complaints
The DMDK candidates led by L.K. Sudheesh had reached the spot earlier and had started greeting the devotees coming out of the mosque, speaking to them about the party's ambitions and aspirations. After some time DMK candidates led by S. Uma Rani also came to the spot and stood on the other side of the gate to canvas for the party. Both the parties raised their voice to seek votes and distribute pamphlets.
After about 10 minutes, when the candidates greeted each other and were about to leave, a member from the DMDK attacked another from the opposition party. "Things were fine till a cadre attached to the opposite party tried to attack me with a party flag that was tied to a plastic pipe. DMK Salem City treasurer S.R. Anwar was attacked when he tried to stop the attacker. This was the reason behind the incident. It was not the fault of the entire party, the DMDK," said Uma Rani.
While both the cadres decided not to file a complaint, things went out of control when a few people leaving the mosque blocked Sudheesh's car and raised slogans condemning the DMDK-BJP alliance. The Salem town police pacified the cadre adnd brought the situation under control.
