Sajad Lone Critiques Omar Abdullah as Delhi's Best Bet for Eroding Kashmir's Identity

Sajad Lone, leader of the Peoples Conference, criticised Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He accused Abdullah of being Delhi's preferred choice for undermining Kashmir's identity. Lone, who represents Handwara, expressed his views on X, claiming that Abdullah lacks the courage to challenge Delhi or speak against Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the BJP.

Sajad Lone Critiques Omar Abdullahs Leadership

During the election campaign, Abdullah's approach was aggressive and targeted at the BJP. Lone noted that this strategy earned him significant support. However, post-election, Abdullah's stance softened considerably. The once confrontational tone has now turned into a more subdued one. Lone remarked on visuals showing Abdullah gifting shawls to BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after assuming office.

Political Dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir

Lone questioned the urgency behind Abdullah's visit to Delhi to present shawls. He likened this shift from a defiant figure to a submissive one as a significant downfall. "From a rebel with a sword in his hand mounted on a horse to a minion grovelling on his knees," Lone commented on X.

The MLA further criticised Abdullah for his apparent eagerness to align with the BJP. Lone accused him of betraying Kashmiris who believed he would stand against the BJP's communal politics. "Your desire to be the BJP good boy... is a kick in the teeth for all those Kashmiris," he added.

Challenges Facing the Elected Government

Lone highlighted the existence of both an elected government and a parallel LG administration in Jammu and Kashmir. He pointed out the absence of clear business rules, leading to confusion about roles and responsibilities. "You have been ring-fenced," he stated.

Referring to recent events, Lone mentioned the dismissal of two government employees by the LG over alleged terror links. He criticised Abdullah's silence on such matters, accusing him of punishing ordinary Kashmiris instead of challenging higher authorities.

Accusations of Political Subservience

Lone accused Abdullah of prioritising his political ambitions over the welfare of Kashmiris. "You don't have the guts to fight Delhi," he said, adding that Abdullah has been punishing Kashmiris for decades while avoiding confrontation with Delhi.

Lone concluded by reiterating his belief that Abdullah is seen as an asset by Delhi due to his compliance. "They let you prosper because you are pliable," he remarked, emphasising that Abdullah's actions contribute to eroding Kashmir's identity.
