Saifullah Khalid, LeT Terrorist And TRF Commander, Identified As Mastermind Of Pahalgam Terror Attack
The Jammu and Kashmir Police are receiving support from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy for the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for this attack. This incident has raised significant concerns about cross-border terrorism.
Mastermind Behind the Attack
Army sources have identified Saifullah Khalid, a top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, as the mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack. Known also as Saifullah Kasuri, he is believed to have been planning this assault for two months. During this period, he reportedly visited Pakistani Army camps twice to coordinate the attack.

Saifullah's Connections and Influence
Saifullah is closely associated with Hafiz Saeed, the chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and serves as his deputy. He is credited with founding both TRF and People's Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), which are considered proxies for Lashkar. His ties with Hafiz Saeed and alleged coordination with Pakistani military elements highlight concerns about state-backed terrorism against India.
Incendiary Speeches and Threats
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during an event allegedly organised by Pakistan's Army and ISI, Saifullah made provocative statements. He declared that by February 2, 2026, efforts would be intensified to seize Kashmir. He further threatened increased militant activities in the region, claiming that Kashmir would be "free" by that date.
Impact of the Pahalgam Attack
The Pahalgam terror attack resulted in 26 deaths and injured over a dozen people on Tuesday. Many victims were tourists visiting the area. This incident is one of the most significant attacks since Article 370 was revoked in 2019. Although security forces have intensified search operations post-attack, official casualty numbers remain unconfirmed.
Security Measures and Public Response
Following the attack, security has been heightened across Pahalgam. Visuals from the area show deserted streets in what is usually a bustling tourist spot. In response to this tragic event, several organisations have called for a Jammu bandh to express their outrage and demand action against those responsible.
