Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Intruder Entered Building While Security Guards Were Asleep

A Bangladeshi national, arrested for attacking Saif Ali Khan, entered the actor's residence in Mumbai's Bandra area by climbing the compound wall. The security guards were asleep at the time, according to police reports on Tuesday. The Mumbai police recreated the crime scene with the accused at the Satguru Sharan building, where Khan resides.

Intruder Enters Saif Ali Khans Building Unnoticed

Khan, aged 54, was repeatedly stabbed by the intruder, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, also known as Vijay Das, aged 30. This incident took place inside his 12th-floor apartment during the early hours of January 16. Following the attack, Khan underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital due to multiple stab wounds.

Security Lapses and Investigation

Three days post-attack, police apprehended the accused in Thane city. A police official stated that both security guards at Khan's building were asleep when the attacker scaled the boundary wall. The intruder entered through the main entrance, which lacked CCTV surveillance. To avoid detection, he removed his shoes and switched off his phone.

The investigation revealed no CCTV cameras in the building's corridor. One guard was asleep in a cabin while another was near the gate. To recreate the crime scene, police took the accused to various locations he might have visited for food, clothing changes, and train boarding.

Accused's Background and Legal Proceedings

The accused is held in police lockup at either Bandra or Santacruz stations. Only the investigation officer can meet him. He receives food similar to other detainees. Police Inspector Crime Ajay Lingnurkar leads the investigation.

Fakir hails from Jhalokathi district in Bangladesh and had been living in Mumbai for over five months. He worked odd jobs and was linked with a housekeeping agency. On Sunday, a Mumbai court remanded him in five-day police custody.

The case highlights significant security lapses at high-profile residences and raises concerns about safety measures in such areas. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover further details about Fakir's motives and actions leading up to the attack on Khan.
