Tragic Accident: Cyclist Loses Life in Safdarjung Enclave Hit-and-Run

A fatal accident occurred in Safdarjung Enclave, South Delhi, claiming the life of a 45-year-old female cyclist named Preeti Gupta. Two other cyclists were injured in the incident. The driver responsible for the hit-and-run has been apprehended.

In a heart-wrenching incident, a 45-year-old female cyclist lost her life after being struck by a pick-up van in South Delhi's Safdarjung Enclave on Saturday morning. The unfortunate event occurred as the cyclist, identified as Preeti Gupta, was part of a group of cyclists, two of whom were also injured in the collision.

The Incident

The accident took place at approximately 6 am near Safdarjung Hospital. Preeti, along with Amitabh Sinha and Nishant, was waiting to cross the road on their bicycles when the pick-up van driven by 24-year-old Sanjeev Pathak rammed into them. The impact left Preeti critically injured, while Amitabh and Nishant sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.

The Aftermath

Following the accident, Amitabh made a PCR call to inform the police about the incident. He recounted that the Mahindra Camper involved in the collision briefly stopped after hitting the cyclists but sped away soon after. The police promptly apprehended the driver, Sanjeev Pathak, from his residence in Faridabad.

The Cyclist Group

The group of cyclists had embarked on their journey from Noida's Sector 101 at around 5 am, intending to reach Dhaula Kuan. However, due to rain, eight of the cyclists decided to return, including Preeti, Amitabh, and Nishant.

The Victim

Preeti Gupta, a resident of Noida Sector 78, was a housewife and lived with her family. Her husband is engaged in the electrical goods business. The tragic incident has left her family and loved ones in deep grief.

Legal Action

In response to the accident, the police registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the van driver at Safdarjung Enclave Police Station.

The untimely demise of Preeti Gupta serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by cyclists on the roads. It underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and greater awareness among motorists to ensure the safety of cyclists and prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
