Saddened By Loss Of Lives: PM Modi Offers Condolence Over US Plane Crash That Killed 67

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday offered condolence over the tragic plane crash in the United States in which 67 people are feared dead.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, "Deeply saddened by loss of lives in the tragic collision in Washington DC. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. We stand in solidarity with the people of the United States."

The disaster occurred on Wednesday night when an American Airlines plane collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport. Both aircraft crashed into the Potomac River, with US authorities confirming that all 67 individuals on board are feared dead.

Rescue teams have so far recovered 40 bodies from the river, while search operations continue. Meanwhile, the black box from the American Airlines plane has been retrieved, CNN reported.

US President Donald Trump, addressing the incident, described it as a "devastating moment" in the nation's history. He assured that efforts would be made to determine the cause and prevent such tragedies in the future. Trump also announced plans to meet with the families of the victims.

"This was a dark and excruciating night in our nation's capital. Sadly, there are no survivors. This tragedy has shaken many people, including those from other nations," he said during a press briefing.

The collision occurred in one of the most closely monitored airspaces in the world, just over three miles south of the White House and Capitol. While the National Transportation Safety Board has recovered the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from the Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft, authorities have refrained from speculating on the cause, emphasizing that investigations could take months.
