S Jaishankar: Take Donald Trump seriously

On relationship between India and China he said that, "Public persona of this relationship in my country is overly negative."

New Delhi, March 21: India's Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar on Tuesday stressed on not judging the United State President Donald Trump. He also asked people to take him seriously. While addressing a press conference he said, "There is a very well quoted remark about Donald Trump that the American people and the media took him literally, but not seriously. In case of Trump, I would say, don't rush to judgement. It is important to take him seriously."

He also said that today it is very much in our interest to build strong connectivity, in the widest possible sense with all our neighbours. On relationship between India and China he said that, "Public persona of this relationship in my country is overly negative. We should make greater effort at getting the more balanced picture and creating a more balanced picture as well."

He further added that, "Nothing has globalised more than terrorism, yet responses to it remains very tactical, national and therefore remains very limited."
Jaishankar had last month visited the US for talks with Trump administration. He had discussed with the US officials about safety of Indians in the US following the Kansas bar shooting. He also talked about new legislation which made tough for companies to replace American employees with foreign employees.

During his visit to the US he met acting deputy secretary of state Tom Shannon and other US officials. During his meeting he discussed about issues related to security, counter-terrorism and defence partnership.
