Russian President Vladimir Putin To Visit India Next Month
Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to visit India in early 2025, following an invite from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This decision stems from a longstanding tradition between the two leaders to meet annually, with the forthcoming year designated for Putin's visit to India, as stated by Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov. specific dates for this anticipated visit will be established at the beginning of the new year. This visit is particularly noteworthy as it will be Putin's first to India since the escalation of the Ukraine-Russia conflict in 2022. Despite the global tensions, India has adopted a neutral stance, advocating for resolution through "peace and diplomacy," maintaining its strong ties with Russia.
The relationship between India and Russia has remained robust through the ongoing geopolitical challenges, underpinned by frequent interactions between the leaders. In 2023, PM Modi and President Putin engaged several times, further solidifying their countries' bonds. Notably, during PM Modi's visit to Moscow in July for the 22nd Russia-India Summit, he was honored with "The Order of St. Andrew the Apostle," Russia's highest state decoration, acknowledging his contributions to enhancing India-Russia relations. This visit was PM Modi's inaugural bilateral trip to Russia since beginning his third term in office, signifying the significance of the India-Russia partnership.

Throughout their interactions, PM Modi and President Putin have displayed a warm personal rapport, evident in their public appearances, which include shared visits to significant locations such as the Rosatom Pavilion at the VDNKh Exhibition Centre in Moscow. These moments of camaraderie between the two leaders underscore the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation that exists between India and Russia. Further illustrating this strong relationship, PM Modi attended the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, in October, where he expressed gratitude towards President Putin and the Russian people for their hospitality, highlighting the enduring collaboration and mutual respect between the two nations.
In a recent briefing, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov confirmed Russia's acceptance of PM Modi's invitation for President Putin to visit India. He emphasized that the leaders have an agreement to meet once a year, with Russia hosting the bilateral discussions this time around. Ushakov's statement highlights the commitment of both nations to continue their diplomatic engagement, despite the complex international landscape. The forthcoming visit of President Putin to India, set to be finalized in the early part of 2025, marks a significant event, reinforcing the strategic partnership between India and Russia amidst the ongoing global challenges.
