Russian national, BJP councillor die in mishap

Kollam (Ker), Dec 16: A Russian woman and a BJP councillor were killed and two other Russian nationals seriously injured when their vehicle collided with a tanker-lorry near here, police said today.

The deceased were identified as Volavalosila (49) and Pandalam Municipal Councillor Udayachandran (39), they said.

Irena Poliyakova and Dina Malik, also from Russia, have been admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, police said. Udayachandran had picked the three women from the airport and was taking them to a 'Jyothisha' (astrology) study centre, to participate in some rituals yesterday at Pandalam, about 60 km from here, when the mishap occurred at nearby Puthurmukku.
