Rush to register names on voters' list as EC extends date till Nov 6

Rush to register names on voters' list
New Delhi, Oct 16: Over two lakh people in the city have applied for registration as voters since last month with 50,000 of those applications coming in the last week alone, election commission officials said on Wednesday.

EC had on Sept 9 finalised the voters' list for the December 4 assembly polls.

However, with the overwhelming rush to sign up for voting, it has now decided to accept fresh applications until November 6. It has also asked booth level officers (BLOs) to verify the applications before the list for the Assembly elections is finalised.

Election Commission of Delhi officials on Wednesday held a meeting with booth level officers and directed them to conduct door-to-door surveys and speed up the verification process for voters' enrolment.

50,000 applications have come in last week

Presently, 11,000 BLOs are working on the field to register eligible voters who are yet to be enrolled as electors.

Alongwith the public even the parties are preparing for the elections, many seeking a change in the current government.
