RSS defamation case: Rahul Gandhi granted bail

A Bhiwandi Court in Maharashtra on Wednesday granted bail to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on personal surety in connection with the RSS defamation case.

Bhiwandi, Nov 16: A Bhiwandi Court in Maharashtra on Wednesday granted bail to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on personal surety in connection with the RSS defamation case.

The court has set the next date of hearing for January 30.

The case was filed by a local RSS fuctionary, Rajesh Kunte, over Rahul's remark during a 2014 election rally, that the RSS had killed Mahatma Gandhi.

The Congress vice-president was accompanied by former Maharashtra Chief Ministers Ashok Chavan, Prithviraj Chavan and senior Congress leader Gurudas Kamat.

Rahul had appered before the Bhiwandi court for the first time in July this year, after which in September he withdrew his petition filed in the Supreme Court challenging the case. He had expressed his readiness to face trial.
