Rs 2 lakh financial aid to grandson of freedom fighter

,Nov 25: A financial assistance of Rs two lakh was today handed over to octagenarian A Sankaralingam, grandson of

V O Chidambaranar.

The amount was handed over to the 80-year-old man by port authorities here on instructions from Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan, who read an interview given by Sankaralingam to a Tamil daily on November 18, where he had spoken of his difficulty in meeting his medical expenses.

A cheque for the amount was handed over to Sankaralingam by V O Chidambaranar Port Trust Chairman S Anantha Chandra Bose here, a port release said Sankaralingam had been suffering from heart ailments and had recently got a Pacemaker implanted. With limited financial resources, he was finding it difficult to meet his medical expenses for his periodical check-up at Thoothukudi, it said.
