Intellectually-Challenged Man Reunited with Bihar Family by RPF After Nine Months

In a heartwarming incident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has successfully reunited a 20-year-old intellectually-challenged man with his family in Bihar, nearly a year after he went missing. Arjun Kumar, who had been presumed dead by his family, was found begging near the Kalyan railway station in Thane district, close to Mumbai. The family, having lost all hope, had conducted his last rites in February 2024 after he disappeared in August 2023.

Man Reunited with Family by RPF

Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of RPF Mumbai, Rishi Kumar Shukla, was alerted about a young man loitering near the Kalyan station. Following this tip-off, RPF officials were dispatched to locate him. Despite his initial inability to communicate effectively about his origins or family due to his condition, Arjun managed to convey his name. "He was very weak after days of begging," said Rakesh Kumar, a senior RPF official involved in the rescue operation. The team took it upon themselves to ensure Arjun was well-fed and cared for, which eventually led to a breakthrough.

By piecing together clues from Arjun's dialect, the RPF deduced he might be from Patna district and initiated contact with several police stations there through social media and other channels. Their efforts were rewarded when Dulhin Bazar police station confirmed Arjun's identity and provided his family's details.

Arjun's father, Ganhori Das, a security guard working in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, was contacted by the police. The reunion that followed on Thursday was described as an emotional moment for both Arjun and his family, who had resigned themselves to the belief that they had lost him forever.

This incident not only highlights the relentless efforts of the RPF in safeguarding individuals but also showcases the power of community and technology in bridging gaps between lost individuals and their families. The successful reunion of Arjun Kumar with his family underscores the critical role played by law enforcement agencies in extending their duties beyond crime prevention to include humanitarian acts that make a significant difference in people's lives.
