Rourkela Diarrhoea Outbreak: Union Minister Appeals for Central Assistance
In response to a critical diarrhoea outbreak in Rourkela, Odisha, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has called for immediate central assistance. With over 1,500 cases and six fatalities reported in just one week, the situation demands urgent attention. The suspected cause of the outbreak is water contamination, leading to severe health complications among the affected population.
In response to a severe outbreak of diarrhoea in Rourkela, Odisha, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has appealed for urgent central assistance to combat the situation. Over 1,500 cases of diarrhoea have been reported in the city within the past week, leading to the unfortunate deaths of at least six individuals.

Potential Cause and Affected Population
The primary cause of the outbreak is suspected to be water contamination, resulting in severe health complications among the affected population. The patients are receiving treatment at various hospitals in the city, including Rourkela Government Hospital, Ispat General Hospital, Medical College, Sundargarh, and private hospitals.
Government Response and Measures
The state government has taken prompt action to address the outbreak. Health Secretary Shalini Pandit and Housing and Urban Development Secretary G Mathivathanan visited the hospitals where the patients are undergoing treatment. Awareness campaigns have been initiated, and efforts to purify water and inspect food have been intensified.

While the number of new cases is no longer increasing, the situation is gradually improving. The government is committed to controlling and addressing the outbreak effectively.
