Rohit Sharma Fat-Shaming Row: Now, Shama Mohamed Pulls Up Kangana Ranaut's Old Tweet Slamming India Skipper

A day after Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya criticised Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed for her now-deleted post fat-shaming Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma, Mohamed has retaliated.

The Congress leader shared an old tweet by BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, in which the Bollywood actress had, in a now-deleted post, criticised Rohit Sharma for his stance on the farmers' protests in 2021. Mohamed questioned the minister and his party's silence over Ranaut's remarks.

Referring to Ranaut's deleted post, Mohamed took to X and wrote: "What does @mansukhmandviya have to say to @KanganaTeam! #JustAsking."

In 2021, during the peak of the farmers' protests, the BJP MP had attacked Rohit Sharma for his tweet highlighting the significance of farmers and calling for a "solution." Ranaut had used derogatory language in her now-deleted post in response to Sharma's statement.

Now, pointing out the lack of response from BJP leaders at the time regarding Ranaut's remarks, Mohamed has targeted Mandaviya and other senior figures within the party.

On Monday, Mandaviya led the BJP's criticism of Mohamed's comments about Sharma's weight. Taking an apparent swipe at Mohamed, Mandaviya condemned the remarks as "deeply shameful and pathetic."

The controversy erupted after Mohamed posted a tweet questioning Sharma's fitness and leadership skills. Her now-deleted post read:

"Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive captain India has ever had!"

She further wrote: "What is so world-class about him when compared to his predecessors? He is a mediocre captain as well as a mediocre player who got lucky to be the captain of India."

Her remarks came while Sharma is leading the Indian team in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy. However, the post was widely criticised, including by members of Mohamed's own party. Following backlash and embarrassment for Congress, the party instructed Mohamed to delete the tweet immediately.
