As counting gathers pace in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, attention has sharply shifted to the 143 constituencies where the RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) has fielded its candidates. While the Election Commission of India (ECI) continues releasing live trends, the early indicators paint a bleak picture for the Tejashwi Yadav-led party. EC trends show the RJD trailing in most seats and leading in only 24, signalling that the party is unlikely to come close to its 2020 performance.

If these trends hold, it would mark one of RJD's poorest electoral outcomes in recent history-its second-worst result after the 2005 Assembly elections, where the party managed just 55 seats amid a sweeping NDA victory under Nitish Kumar.

Founded on July 5, 1997, by Lalu Prasad Yadav, the RJD emerged from a split within the Janata Dal. Since its inception, the party has been anchored in the principles of socialism, secularism, and social justice.

RJD's stronghold has traditionally been among marginalised communities, and its political narrative has consistently focused on equity, dignity, and empowerment.
