"We asked for time to meet the Governor. Will stake acclaim as the largest party. JD-U MLAs who opposed BJP will support us," his tweet read.

RJD has 80 seats and the Congress has 27 seats which takes them to 107 seats. At least 122 seats are needed to form a government in 243 member Bihar Assembly. The BJP-JD (U) combine, on the other hand, has 124 seats which is two seats above the majority figure.

The Governor KN Tripathi will meet Tejashwi on Thursday morning.

After getting BJP's support, Nitish Kumar, who had resigned from Chief Minister's post on Wednesday, will be sworn-in as state's CM at 5 pm on Thursday.

Bihar BJP leader Sushil Modi earlier today confirmed that they would support Nitish. The alliance was formalised after BJP MLAs and JD-U MLAs held a meeting at Nitish's residence on Wednesday evening.

Reports say that Sushil Modi may take up the post of Deputy Chief Minister. BJP has submitted a letter to Bihar Governor K N Tripathi expressing their interest to support JD-U.
