The Supreme Court on Thursday held that Right to Privacy is a fundamental right. The verdict was delivered by a nine judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice of India, J S Khehar. The Bench in a unanimous decision held that right to privacy is a fundamental right.

    The judgement will have a direct bearing on everyone. Now your service provider cannot legitimately access the data shared using mobile phones.

    Sharing of data, phones and messages will come under the ambit of Right to Privacy as a fundamental right. There have been complaints that a customer's data is being used and shared for other providers.

    The other point of contention would be Aadhaar. It has been argued that there is a data breach. It was further contended that the data is being used for commercial purposes.

    Now that privacy is a fundamental right, a five judge Bench would have to examine whether the scheme of collection and storage of data under the Aadhaar is an aspect of individuals' right to privacy and if so, does Aadhaar breaches privacy.
