CBI Files Chargesheet on RG Kar Hospital Financial Irregularities Naming Sandip Ghosh as Prime Accused
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet concerning financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal, is the main accused. The chargesheet, spanning over 100 pages, also names four others arrested for their alleged roles in the case. These individuals are Biplab Singh, Afsar Ali, Suman Hazra, and Ashish Pandey.

Chargesheet Details and Approval Issues
The CBI has included around 1,000 pages of supporting documents in their investigation. However, the Special CBI court in Alipore did not accept the chargesheet. This is because the necessary approval from the West Bengal government was not obtained. Such approval is mandatory when a state government employee is involved.
Ghosh and Pandey are both doctors at the state-run hospital. The chargesheet was submitted nearly three months after Ghosh's arrest on September 2. His arrest followed a national uproar when a medic's body was discovered in the seminar room in August.
Allegations of Long-Standing Fraud
The financial misconduct at RG Kar Hospital reportedly spanned over three years. During this time, tenders for medical equipment were manipulated. Ghosh allegedly facilitated his associates in securing these tenders through unfair means.
The chargesheet's delay highlights procedural challenges in prosecuting state employees. The investigation underscores systemic issues within public healthcare procurement processes. The case remains pending until the required governmental approval is granted.
The CBI's findings have brought attention to potential governance lapses in state-run institutions. The outcome of this case could influence future oversight and regulatory measures in similar establishments across India.
