India's performance at the Paris Olympic Games, held from July 26 to August 11, was nothing short of remarkable. The country ended its campaign with six medals, including one silver and five bronze. Shooting played a pivotal role in India's success, with athletes Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh, and Swapnil Kusale winning three bronze medals in the event.

Neeraj Chopra brought home a silver medal in Javelin Throw, while Aman Sehrawat secured a bronze in Wrestling. The Indian Hockey Team also defended its bronze medal. These athletes were celebrated during the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort on August 15, where they were honoured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Paris Paralympic Games 2024: Historic Success

India's performance at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, held from August 28 to September 8, was a breakthrough moment. With the largest-ever contingent, Indian athletes won 29 medals, including seven gold, nine silver, and thirteen bronze. This incredible achievement secured India the 18th spot in the medal tally, marking its best-ever performance in Paralympic history.

India's Chess Achievements: Gold At The FIDE Chess Olympiad

Indian chess reached new heights at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary. The Indian Men's and Women's Chess Teams both won gold medals. The men's team, featuring top players like Gukesh D, Praggnanandhaa R, Arjun Erigaisi, and Vidit Gujrathi, triumphed with a stellar record of ten wins from eleven matches, defeating Slovenia in the final round. Gukesh D and Arjun Erigaisi also earned individual gold medals for their brilliant performances.

The Indian Women's Chess Team, comprising Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali R, Divya Dshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, and Tania Sachdev, overcame early challenges to defeat Azerbaijan and claim gold. The teams were congratulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their historic achievements.

Empowering Women In Sports: ASMITA Leagues

The ASMITA Women's Leagues, aimed at inspiring women through sports, have been conducted across 20 disciplines in India. Focusing on engaging athletes from small towns and villages, the leagues have seen 766 competitions with over 83,000 women participating. This initiative further strengthens India's commitment to empowering women in sports.

KIRTI Program: Identifying Young Talent

The KIRTI program, aimed at identifying young sports talent, has made significant progress with over 1.8 lakh assessments conducted across India. This initiative identifies school-going children between the ages of 9 and 18, ensuring a streamlined process for discovering and nurturing future sports stars.

RESET Programme: Empowering Retired Athletes

Launched on August 29, the RESET Programme focuses on empowering retired athletes. By providing knowledge and skills training, the program helps retired sportspeople transition into new career paths. To date, 30 trainees from 14 states and union territories have completed the program across 18 disciplines.

India's achievements in 2024 demonstrate not only the country's sporting excellence but also its commitment to empowering athletes and inspiring future generations.
