Republic Day 2026: PM Modi Extends Wishes As President Murmu Outlines Vision For Developed India

India marked the 77th Republic Day with messages of unity, self-reliance and global responsibility, as President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on the eve of the celebrations and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to citizens across the country.

President Murmu highlights peace, self-reliance and growth

In her address to the nation, President Droupadi Murmu said India was actively spreading the message of world peace at a time when several parts of the globe are facing conflict. She emphasised that the guiding principles of atma nirbharta and swadeshi continue to strengthen the Indian economy and drive sustained growth.

The President called upon citizens to actively participate in the mission of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, which will mark 100 years of Independence. She also highlighted the progress made in women's development, spoke about key government welfare schemes, and underlined the importance of recent labour reforms in shaping a more inclusive economy.

PM Modi shares Republic Day message with citizens

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day through a post on X. He wrote, "Heartiest Republic Day greetings to all my fellow citizens. May this grand national festival, a symbol of India's honour, pride, and glory, infuse new energy and enthusiasm into your lives. May the resolve for a developed India grow even stronger, is my heartfelt wish."

His message echoed the broader theme of national unity and collective resolve towards building a developed India.

Republic Day parade to begin at 10:30 am

According to an official release, the Republic Day ceremony will commence at 10:30 am and is expected to last for approximately 90 minutes. The annual parade remains one of the most significant national events, showcasing India's cultural diversity, military strength and democratic spirit.
