Assistant Commandant Simran Bala is set to lead an all-male Central Reserve Police Force contingent at the Republic Day parade in 2026, a first for the force. The 26-year-old officer will command more than 140 CRPF personnel marching down Kartavya Path in New Delhi on 26 January.

Officials point out that women CRPF officers have marched in the parade before, though none has commanded such a large all-male formation. The force counts nearly 3.25 lakh personnel nationwide, so Simran's role at one of India's most watched events signals growing space for women in uniformed leadership.

Simran completed a political science degree at the Government College for Women in Jammu's Gandhinagar area before clearing the UPSC CAPF Assistant Commandants examination. During training, instructors rated Simran as the best officer of the batch and noted strong public speaking skills. Officials say these assessments, when combined with field responsibilities in Bastariya battalion, helped demonstrate readiness for both demanding operations and the ceremonial spotlight of the Republic Day parade.
