Reopening of Bhaderwah-Chamba Interstate Road Revitalises Tourism in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda District

The Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road has reopened for vehicles after being shut for over two months following the Pahalgam terror attack. This development is expected to rejuvenate tourism in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, according to officials. The road, which connects Jammu and Kashmir with Himachal Pradesh, traverses stunning locations such as Padri Gali and Khanni Top in Doda, and Khundi Maral in Chamba.

Bhaderwah-Chamba Road Reopens for Tourism

Traffic was halted on this crucial route as a safety measure after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 25 tourists and a local service provider. The reopening has already begun to attract visitors, officials noted. The road's reopening is seen as a positive step towards reviving tourism in the region.

Tourism Revival in Jammu and Kashmir

On June 17, several previously closed tourist spots in Jammu and Kashmir were also reopened. These include Sarthal and Dhaggar in Kathua, Devipindi, Siyad Baba, and Sula Park in Reasi; Guldanda and Jai Valley in Doda, and Pancheri in Udhampur. This move is part of broader efforts to boost tourism across the region.

Deputy Commissioner Doda Harvinder Singh visited Padri Top to evaluate security measures and other arrangements following the road's reopening. "The security and tourism infrastructure is in place and we are expecting tourists from across the country to visit the scenic area," he stated.

Local Economy Boost Expected

Padri Top is a popular destination for tourists from both Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh due to its proximity to Bhaderwah town and Dalhousie. Locals involved in the tourism sector have expressed their appreciation to the district administration for reopening this vital link, hoping it will enhance the local economy.

The reopening of these roads is anticipated to bring more visitors, benefiting local businesses reliant on tourism. The scenic beauty of these areas is expected to draw tourists from various parts of India.

The resumption of traffic on this interstate road marks a significant step towards normalcy in the region. It offers hope for economic recovery through increased tourist activity, providing a much-needed boost to local communities.
