Relief for Kerala's bar hotels; SC asks govt not to cancel licences till Thursday

The Kerala government had decided to cancel the licences of all 312 bars in the state by this week as part of its plan to make the state alcohol free in the next 10 years.
Kerala is currently the largest consumer of alcohol in the country. On September 3, the Kerala High Court had refused to stay the closure of over 700 bar hotels below five star categories.
The apex court has also agreed to hear the plea of hotel owners against the state government's decision not to grant them bar licence.
According to the new liquor policy of the UDF government states that only five star hotels will have bars to sell Indian Made Foreign Liquor.
