Receiver Assigned to Manage Udaipur City Palace Dispute Following Entry Denial of Vishvaraj Singh

The district administration has appointed a receiver to manage a disputed section of City Palace in Udaipur. This decision follows tensions after Vishvaraj Singh, the new ceremonial head of the former royal family, was denied entry. Ghanta Ghar SHO Yogendra Vyas, named as the receiver by the additional district magistrate, stated that possession of the area has not yet been taken. The situation remained stable on Tuesday.

Receiver to Manage Udaipur City Palace Dispute

Vishvaraj Singh, a BJP MLA, expressed his right to visit Dhuni but was stopped. He plans to visit Eklingnathji temple on Wednesday. Meanwhile, nearby markets stayed closed. An FIR was filed against unidentified individuals for stone pelting incidents reported the previous night. Collector Arvind Poswal mentioned efforts are underway to resolve the issue through dialogue between both parties.

City Palace Dispute and Police Injuries

Three policemen sustained injuries when stones were thrown at the palace's main gate from both sides. Vishvaraj Singh was anointed as the titular head of the former Mewar royal family at Chittorgarh fort after his father Mahendra Singh Mewar's death earlier this month. After his anointment, Singh planned to visit City Palace for darshan at Dhuni and then proceed to Eklingnathji temple.

However, Arvind Singh Mewar, Mahendra Singh Mewar's younger brother who controls City Palace, blocked Singh's entry. Arvind's son, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, remarked that risking lives for rituals is inappropriate. He accused some government officials of pressuring the administration for personal gain and attempting forced entry into their home.

Legal Notices and Police Deployment

Arvind Singh Mewar had issued two public notices through his lawyer in local newspapers on Monday, warning against trespassing and threatening legal action. Following these notices, police were deployed in large numbers to manage the situation. Despite this, tensions escalated as supporters of Vishvaraj Singh clashed with those of Arvind Singh Mewar late on Monday.

After his anointment ceremony, Vishvaraj Singh and many supporters reached Udaipur but were denied entry into City Palace. While waiting at Jagdish Chowk near the palace gates, his supporters attempted to breach police barricades before starting a protest. Collector Arvind Poswal and Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal intervened and held separate discussions with Singh and his cousin Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, but talks were inconclusive.

Receiver Appointment and Ongoing Tensions

With rising tensions, the additional district magistrate appointed Ghanta Ghar SHO Yogendra Kumar Vyas as receiver for the disputed area between Badi Pol and Dhuni. A notice about this appointment was also posted on the palace's main gate. Following this development, Vishvaraj Singh returned home around 1:30 am without having darshan at Dhuni.

Lakshyaraj Singh noted that they had anticipated this situation and informed authorities days earlier through newspapers. The receivership appointment came after clashes between supporters of Vishvaraj Singh and those of Arvind Singh Mewar over control of City Palace.
