Rebel Shiv Sena Leaders Sending Feelers To Do Ghar Wapasi, Claims NCP Ahead Of SC Ruling
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday claimed that some MLAs from chief minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena want to return to the Thackeray faction, ahead of the Supreme Court's verdict on the Maharashtra political crisis.
"Some little birdies were heard saying that some MLAs who betrayed the original Shiv Sena with the desire to become ministers are now getting a feeling that they are in between the frying pan and the fire and many among them are sending feelers to do a 'Ghar Wapasi'," tweeted NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto.
"If the 16 MLAs including CM Shinde are disqualified today, then this group of traitors will be finished," said Rajya Sabha PM and Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Sanjay Raut.
In what could decide the fate of Maharashtra politics, the Supreme Court is likely to pronounce the verdict on the year-long battle between Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde on Thursday.
A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will decide whether Eknath Shinde remains the chief minister or whether his rebellion and the consequent floor test were illegal.
The SC verdict would also focus on the decision taken by then Governor, Bhagath Singh Koshiyari to invite the Shinde faction to form the government along with the BJP after Uddhav Thackeray chose to resign as chief minister of Maharashtra.
If the verdict comes in favour of the Shinde faction, he will continue to remain as chief minister of Maharashtra till the end of his tenure next year. The ruling may also lead to another round of defections from the Thackeray faction.
A verdict in favour of Uddhav faction may result in the fall of the incumbent state government.
