People come across many scams when they are looking for a flat on rent or want to buy a house. Such instances are common where landlords have bizarre demands from their prospective tenants.

Identified by his Reddit handle @zenpraxis, the man turned to the platform to seek guidance and clarification regarding the legitimacy of this procedure, questioning whether it was a genuine practice or a potential scam.

He shared the screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation where the broker was telling him that the one BHK flat is situated in Sarita Vihar, New Delhi. It comprises a fully furnished one-bedroom, hall and kitchen and the monthly rent is Rs.15,000.

With these details of the house, the broker then asked the man to apply for a 'society visiting card'. Along with a visiting fee of Rs 2500, the broker specified that the man should furnish his Aadhar Card number, WhatsApp number, photograph, and phone number for card issuance.

"If you like the flat, then your Rs.2,500 will be deducted from your rent amount. If you do not like the flat, your Rs.2500 will be returned to you," the broker added.

The post was shared on January 13 by the Reddit user and it soon gained traction. This proposal triggered a surge of reactions from the Reddit community, with numerous users displaying doubt and categorising it as a fraudulent scheme.
