Rape victim kills self in New Delhi

New Delhi, June 21: A 21-year-old woman, who was allegedly raped by a friend on the pretext of marriage, allegedly committed suicide at her residence in east Delhi's Harsh Vihar area, police said on Tuesday,June 21.

The woman was allegedly being pressurised to agree to an out of court settlement in the rape case in connection with which a 24-year-old man was arrested, a police official said.

The incident took place yesterday morning when the woman's relatives found her hanging in her room and raised an alarm.

Her body was later sent for postmortem examination and an inquest has been initiated into the matter, the official added.
