Rape Cases Increasing in West Bengal Due to Lack of Timely Government Action, Says Governor C V Ananda Bose
West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose criticised the state government on Saturday, blaming its lack of prompt action for the rise in rape cases. His remarks followed public outrage over the alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Jaynagar, South 24 Parganas district.

Bose pointed out that the state's failure to act swiftly has led to an increase in such crimes. He specifically mentioned the mishandling of a rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College as an example of how these incidents are being repeated. "The West Bengal government should realise that a stitch in time saves nine," he stated.
Governor's Call for Decisive Action
The governor emphasised the need for the state government to take firm and decisive measures against offenders. He warned that failing to do so would effectively encourage more violence and rape in the region. "This does not bring credit to anybody down the line," he remarked, urging the government to understand that prevention is better than cure.
Earlier, tensions escalated when locals set fire to a police outpost and vandalised vehicles after discovering the minor's body in Jaynagar. The police have arrested one individual in connection with this tragic incident.
Bose expressed concern over the ongoing violence under the current administration, describing it as troubling. He stressed that without effective intervention, such heinous acts would continue unabated. "Under the present government in Bengal, there seems to be no cure for violence. That’s queer," he commented.
The governor's statements highlight a pressing need for immediate action to curb rising crime rates. His call for accountability aims to push the state government towards implementing preventive measures to ensure safety and justice for all citizens.
