Pics: More trouble for BSP MP in the maid assault and murder case

New Delhi, Nov 14: It is trouble after trouble for the BSP MP-Dhananjay Singh-convicted for the assault of a maid later last week. Now, he is facing rape and criminal intimidation charges at Pandav Nagar police station in East Delhi.

A 42-year old government employee alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the minister between 2005 and 2009, but could not come forward with a complaint as she had been threatened with dire consequences. He has now been booked under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

The minister, representing the Jaunpur constituency, and his wife Jagriti (who is a dental surgeon at the RML Hospital in Delhi) were arrested on charges of assaulting their domestic help that led to her death. While Jagriti is being tried for murder, Dhananjay is charged for destruction of evidence. The counsel for the minister, however, claims that he had separated from his wife because of her "unpredictable and violent" behaviour. In fact, in a bail plea, the minister states that his only "crime" was to be married to Jagriti and that he has been framed.

Further investigation, as reported by the Indian Express, cite history sheet number 12 A in the Sikara police station alone lists 11 cases (including murder) against him. However, he got bail in almost all of them. For instance in the case of DR Bachchi Lal in 2001 and that of a contractor and a tea stall owner in 2011.
