Ramesh Bais replaces Koshyari as Maharashtra Governor

Four BJP leaders and former Supreme Court judge S Adbul Nazeer, who was part of the Constitution bench that upheld the archaeological report on Ayodhya, were among six new faces appointed as governors on Sunday.

Mumbai, Feb 12: Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais has been appointed as the new Governor of Maharashtra as President Draupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

Following a controversy over a comment on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Koshyari had expressed his desire to resign and said that he wished to spend the rest of his life in reading, writing and other leisurely activities. While Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP had demanded his resignation, the BJP had put weight behind him.

New Appointments
The Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday announced the names for appointment on the post of 12 Governors for states and one Lieutenant Governor in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan stated that President Draupadi Murmu has accepted the resignations of Bhagat Singh Koshyari as Governor of Maharashtra and Radha Krishnan Mathur as Lt. Governor of Ladakh.

Ramesh Bais, the Governor of Jharkhand has now been appointed as Governor of Maharashtra, while, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), who is the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh has been appointed as Lt. Governor of Ladakh.

Justice (Retd.) S Abdul Nazeer as Governor of Andhra Pradesh.

Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh appointed as Governor of Chhattisgarh.

Sushri Anusuiya Uikye, Governor of Chhattisgarh appointed as Governor of Manipur.

La Ganesan, Governor of Manipur appointed as Governor of Nagaland.

Phagu Chauhan, Governor of Bihar appointed as Governor of Meghalaya.

Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Himachal Pradesh appointed as Governor of Bihar.

Brig. (Dr.) Shri B.D. Mishra (Retd.), Governor of Arunachal Pradesh appointed as Lt. Governor of Ladakh.

"The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices," the statement added.
