Ramdev Baba Takes A Jab At Mamta Kulkarni: 'From Worldly Pleasures To Saint In A Day'

Yoga guru Ramdev has expressed strong reservations about actor Mamta Kulkarni's elevation to the title of Mahamandaleshwar in the Kinnar Akhara at the ongoing Maha Kumbh.

Speaking on the matter, Ramdev emphasized the sanctity of the Kumbh festival. "The grand Kumbh, deeply rooted in Sanatana tradition, is a sacred celebration. Associating vulgarity, intoxication, or inappropriate behavior with it distorts its essence," PTI quoted Ramdev.

He further criticized sudden transformations into sainthood, saying, "Some individuals, who were indulging in worldly pleasures just yesterday, suddenly become saints or even attain titles like Mahamandaleshwar in a single day."

The anointment of Kulkarni has sparked opposition among several saints, who have questioned the legitimacy of her appointment to the esteemed position, which holds significant importance in religious discourse and social responsibility.

On January 24, 52-year-old Mamta Kulkarni adopted the name 'Mai Mamta Nand Giri' after taking 'sanyas' in the Kinnar Akhara. Following her initiation, she underwent the rituals and received her new identity in the same akhara.

Kinnar Akhara's Mahamandaleshwar, Kaushalya Nand Giri (also known as Tina Maa), informed PTI that Kulkarni performed her own 'Pind Daan' on the banks of the Ganga before her transformation.

Kulkarni shared her journey, saying, "I began my penance in 2000 and chose Laxmi Narayan Tripathi as my 'pattaguru.' Today, Maa Shakti instructed me to do so, recognizing Tripathi as the embodiment of Ardhnareshwar. There can be no greater honor than having an Ardhnareshwar perform my 'pattabhishek'."

In the 1990s, Mamta Kulkarni was a popular Bollywood actress, known for her roles in hit films like Karan Arjun and Baazi. However, in the early 2000s, she withdrew from the industry, moved abroad, and chose a life away from the public eye.

Her recent transformation into a spiritual leader marks a significant departure from her earlier life, stirring a mix of intrigue and controversy.
