Ram Rahim now plants saplings in jail for Rs 40 a day
However now it appears as though he has made his peace with the sentence of 20 years he was awarded by a special CBI court which convicted him on rape charges.
Prisoner number 8647 Gurmeet Ram Rahim will spend the rest of his days in jail planting saplings. He was given an option of either undertaking gardening or working at the jail factory.

After several hours of counselling by the jail authorities, Ram Rahim decided to take up gardening and will be paid a sum of Rs 40 per day. Apart from this Ram Rahim keeps to himself and does not mingle with the rest of the cell mates.
At first the jail authorities found it hard to deal with him. He would be aloof and was stubborn.
However now it appears as though he has made his peace with the sentence of 20 years he was awarded by a special CBI court which convicted him on rape charges.
The role of a gardener for Ram Rahim is interesting since on the Dera Sacha Sauda website it is claimed that the followers created a Guiness Record of planting more than 9,38,007 trees in just one hour.
Ram Rahim does not have too many visitors in jail. His advocates meet with him often and update him on the status of the case. The Dera chief would prefer an appeal against his order of conviction in the High Court soon.
